Shellcraft

Learn the command line by typing it.

Overview

What it does

Shellcraft teaches the command line the only way it actually sticks, by typing real commands into a live sandboxed terminal and seeing the effect. A deterministic simulator, never a real shell, grades every attempt against the goal state it reached, so partial credit and misconception hints are possible instead of a flat pass/fail string match.

Each module runs the same six-unit arc: a Brief with diagrams, worked examples, guided practice, a timed challenge, a boss battle, and a mastery check. Streaks, XP, and per-command mastery (with real forgetting-curve decay) carry across sessions, and a "reveal the answer" escape hatch keeps anyone from getting permanently stuck.

Features

Built for the job

Graded on effect, not string-matching

A deterministic simulator checks whether the goal state was actually reached, so more than one correct command can pass.

Five tracks

Bash, Windows CMD, PowerShell, Kali/security tooling, and Cisco IOS, from everyday navigation to real device-CLI muscle memory.

Six-unit lesson arc

Brief, worked examples, guided practice, timed challenge, boss battle, mastery check, every module, every track.

Never permanently stuck

Hints, then a reveal-the-answer fallback that keeps your streak without handing over full credit.
